Solardome SA cc is an independent solar hot water system manufacturer. The business was established in 1969, and registered in 1973 as Mikado (PTY) Ltd under the professional leadership of Gustav Lindenberg, an electrical engineer.

In 1997 the business was purchased by Tertius Lindenberg, son of Gustav, and changed its operating name to Solardome SA cc .The majority of the manufacturing facit is based in Stellenbosch, South Africa.Tertius Lindenberg, a qualified industrial engineer has dedicated himself to developing the business into the most trusted name in solar water heating in South Africa. During this time the business also expanded to be able to offer photovoltaic systems and related components, making Solardome SA one of the few companies in Africa able to offer the full suite of solar power solutions.

In 2007 Tertius decided that for Solardome SA to stay focused and dedicated to solar water heating, he had to split the company in two: Solardome SA and Sunflare Renewable Systems.Solardome SA only focussing on solar water heating and Sunflare Renewable Systems focussing on Solar electricity.

Our success was not achieved without the loyal assistance of a close-knit manufacturing staff with rare skills and dedication. Our factory foreman, Joe Anthony, and his two supervisors have accumulated more that 80 years of collective service, a very noteworthy achievement.Our years of manufacturing experience have enabled us to produce a quality range of solar collectors and cylinders that have proven themselves over and over in the rough African market. From residential homes and palaces, to humble cob dwellings in the bushveld, we have experience with all types of installations. Some of our systems are over 30 years old and still delivering piping hot water to their owners.

Projects

Solardome SA has been involved in many commercial and residential projects both nationally and internationally.

Our continued commitment to cutting edge technology has lead us to purchase machinery which enables us to produce solar collectors to a EU standard. This is the first of its kind in Africa and has launched us to the forefront of solar collector manufacturing in South Africa. We also recently acquired additional property to allow us to expand our manufacturing capacity on a floorspace of 1900m². We are poised to meet and service the inevitable market growth in the solar industry.

Solardome SA has a strong relationship with respected suppliers both in South Africa and abroad. We draw on the extensive experience of the European industry leaders, while maintaining strong trade with local companies. Companies such as Sanyo, Steca, Resol, Ivan Laboratories, and others are some of our international suppliers. Locally, we have aligned ourselves with the most trusted suppliers and insist on quality certification such as SABS, ISO, TUV and others.

Focus areas include:

• Establishment of Standards for solar water heaters.
• Market research into installed capacity in the Western Cape (in conjunction with OneWorld Investments and the German government).
  
• Establishment of unit standards for training in SWH under the National Skills Development programme.
